Pianist, composer, arranger, teacher, producer—these are some of the faces Erik Deutsch has shown the world. He is now a permanent member of the Charlie Hunter Trio and the Erin McKeown Band. Both groups have new albums featuring Deutsch’s keyboard skills: Charlie Hunter’s Mistico and Erin McKeown’s Lafayette.

Erik’s solo recording project, Fingerprint, was released in August of ’07 on Sterling Circle Records. Featuring Ron Miles, Jenny Scheinman, Allison Miller, Todd Sickafoose, Ross Martin, and Janet Feder, the session showcases nine of Deutsch’s new compositions.

While attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, Erik helped to form the acclaimed ensemble Fat Mama. In 2001 he pioneered two other long-term projects: County Road X, an Americana chamber band, and Triangle, a modern piano trio featuring Art Lande.

Since relocating to New York City in 2005, Erik has played with Ellery Eskelin, Scott Amendola, Nels Cline, Jackie Cain, Lisle Ellis, Jim Black, Bobby Previte, and formed a partnership with house music guru Mr. V. When at home, he spends his time teaching students at Queens College and The Paul Green School of Rock.

“Erik Deutsch, a pianist with a taste for tuneful provocation, is an especially valuable resource as a solo commentator and accompanist…”

– Nate Chinen, NY Times

"Mr. Deutsch is an especially valuable resource here [touring with the Charlie Hunter Trio], as a solo commentator and, much more important, an accompanist."

- Nate Chinen, New York Times

"Erik Deutsch, a pianist with a taste for tuneful provocation, has a new album, "Fingerprint" (Sterling Circle). Its chamberlike coterie includes the cornetist Ron Miles, the bassist Todd Sickafoose, the drummer Allison Miller and the guitarists Ross Martin and Janet Feder, who are all present here."
