Sterling Circle Records Releases Fingerprint by
Pianist Erik Deutsch
Feat. Ron Miles, Jenny Scheinman,
Allison Miller, Todd Sickafoose, Ross Martin, and Janet
Feder
The much anticipated debut release from pianist Erik Deutsch
is now available from Sterling Circle Records. Fingerprint showcases
Deutsch’s skills as a player, composer, and arranger.
Lush harmonies, melodies, and virtuosic performances characterize
his remarkably fresh approach to modern jazz.
Throughout the past decade, Deutsch has spearheaded a variety
of different ensembles. County Road X, Triangle,
and Fat Mama all released albums where he was the
featured performer and composer. Although Fingerprint is
far from Deutsch’s first recording project, it is the
first under his name. He wrote, arranged, produced,
and performed on all tracks. Erik considers the album
to be an important accomplishment: “Fingerprint is
a collection of songs that illustrate what I love most about
music: melody, harmony, orchestration, improvisation,
and groove. I’ve always tried to listen to a wide range
of musical styles, and I hope this record reflects my passion
for all of them.”
The album features some of the top young stars of the jazz
world and beyond. Jenny Scheinman on violin (Bill Frisell,
Lucinda Williams), Ron Miles on cornet (Madeleine Peyroux,
Bill Frisell), Todd Sickafoose on bass (Ani Defranco), Allison
Miller on drums (Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ani Defranco), Ross Martin
on guitars (Sonya Kitchell), and the unique style of Janet
Feder on prepared guitar, banjo, and dobro.
“I feel honored to have had the chance to assemble
such an amazing group of musicians,” Erik says. “Not
only are they creative, inspiring players, but they are close
friends.” The group met in Colorado in August
of ’06 and spent the mornings hiking and swimming in
the foothills of Boulder before heading to the studio. “It
was rare opportunity to have my New York crew hanging away
of the city-- a true east meets west situation.”
Since then, Deutsch has spent his time on the road with
the Charlie Hunter Trio, Erin McKeown, and Scott Amendola. New
albums with Charlie and Erin will be released at the end
of the summer.

"Mr. Deutsch is an especially
valuable resource here [touring with the Charlie Hunter Trio],
as a solo commentator and, much more important, an accompanist."
